Because I don't like to store things away in the winter, I tend to make garden accoutrements that can stay out year-round and tolerate our weather extremes.

Old Desk Iron SiderailI see lots of these old desk parts in junk shops. Sometimes the mate side is missing. This one is large and really ornate and really heavy! Which rules out hanging it on a fence. I have an idea for making it into an entry fence beside the gate to my veggie garden next year, but for now, I've buried its feet to hold i tup and it's breaking up the mass of white flowers in the back bed. Old Windows & ShuttersThere's lots of choices to be made here: just hang them up as they are here or paint the glass, or add a photo scene behind it (using a laminated placemat), or add mirrors or attach flat-bottomed marbles to add a design to the glass or...[Read more] |
Blue GlassIt's a big favourite for a lot of collectors and for good reason: it's very attractive. I've got this bottle on a piece of bamboo to add colour to an area where blooming is over for the season. [See a bigger image] |
Metal Pot HolderThese are intended as kitchen utensil but look really atractive on the fence. [See a bigger image] |

Tiny Metal Fences With Glass InlaysI got these at an end of season sell-off. They're good for dividing areas of the garden. [See a bigger image] |
Log Cabin BirdhouseI got this at the Habitat ReStore half price sale. I gave it a couple of coats of polyurethane with hopes that it withstand a few winters and host a few new sparrow families in the spring. [See a bigger image] |
Moon Face Candle HolderI'd never have stuff like this in my house (I don't like fuss or dust-collectors), but I do like it in the garden. [See a bigger image] |
Hanging Scales of JusticeI could not resist these scales. Right now they're hanging from the grape vine arbour. [See a bigger image] |

Hello Empress,
I love your garden art junk ideas! Very creative and I like that a lot!
I've did some of that too, like hanging my curly iron pot holder on the garden wall as well as little mirrors and wreathes etc. and I also collect blue glass bottles and I have some of them displayed in my garden. I have an iron chandelier hanging in one of my trees, I use little iron fences for my border and I have glass balls everywhere in the garden. Last year I've also decorated an old wooden ladder and found it looking very special, but this year I didnt find the right place for it, because I've decorated the garden with so much other stuff and I don't wanna totally overload it, but there must be a photo of it in my blog archive from 2005. Maybe if you find the time, you like to come over with a cup of tea to have a look at my photos? Anyway it was nice to find a kindred spirit here and I'll be back from time to time.

Are we sisters?
Not sure how I found you, but am SO glad that I did. Your ideas and your blog are inspiring, to say the least! I can't decide which of your garden art/junk projects I want to try first!!!
Happy treasure hunting, looking forward to future photos.
